Luxury can be hard to afford in Greece! However, Village Heights Resort offers luxury that can be much more affordable than other parts of Greece or even other parts of Crete. Here is an honest, unpaid review of staying in the 5 star hotel in Hersonissos!

Village Heights Resort
Grounds: The resort itself at Village Heights is beautiful! The grounds are beautiful and the stucco buildings give a New Mexico vibe. The resort is located up on a hill, giving many rooms a view of Hersonissos and Limenas Chersonissou from above.
The landscaping was well-maintained with BEAUTIFUL flowers and roses everywhere. The whole place is VERY aesthetically pleasing!
Rooms: The rooms are quite large and each come with a kitchenette with a sink, refrigerator and kitchen table, which is so nice. The rooms were clean and the beds were big and comfortable.
Village Heights Location
Village Heights is located just outside of Hersonissos old town on the northern side of Crete, about 30 minutes east of the Heraklion ports.
- The grounds of the resort are secluded and away from the bustling towns. If you are looking for a resort that is quiet and away from crowds, this is perfect for you! It really is a peaceful, quite location
- However, if you want to be in walking distance of restaurants, old town Hersonissos or Limenas Chersonissou then this is not the place for you.
- In order to access the two villages, you have to bus. However, Village Heights is great about offering rides to places all around the area.
Transportation Offered
As I mentioned, Village Heights is located in a secluded area that doesn’t allow for walking to too many places. However, the resort does a great job of offering transportation to Hersonissos, Limenas Chersonissou and Stalis (Stalida) Beach regularly!
They also offer transportation to nearby popular sites such as Knossos Palace, the museum in Heraklion and more on a reservation-basis.
Airport pick up and drop-off in a private vehicle is offered for $50 each way.
Amenities Offered Village Heights Resort
Village Heights really offers a lot of stuff to do on the grounds! In addition to the golf, they offer loads of entertainment including:
Entertainment at the Resort
Games: The resort is very kid-friendly with all of the games and activities they offer. These include:
- A game room that consists of table tennis, air hockey, a pool table, etc
- Giant Chess on the lawn
- 9-hole putt putt golf course
Active entertainment: If you are more of an active vacationer, Village Heights offers a lot of sport-based activities as well. In addition to providing golf nearby, they have tennis courts and volleyball courts as well. You can also partake in yoga classes and are big into well-being with meditation and mindfulness classes as well.
Music and Culture:
- One of my favorite things about the resort was the nightly entertainment options. Nearly every night they offer a different kind of entertainment, including:
- Cretan Night with live music and a dancing show
- Different live music genres such as Italian, Jazz, etc
- They also offer other Greek-immersive entertainment such as cooking classes and Greek Language classes!
Pools: Village Heights has two outdoor pools and 1 indoor heated pool
Rides to Local Activities
- Beach: Though the resort isn’t located in walking distance to a beach, the resort offers a free shuttle to Stalis Beach and the Beachcomber Beach Bar Restaurant where you will get a free chair and umbrella. The beach bar is really nice with SUCH a cute aesthetic and friendly service.
- Family Options Rides are offered to places for the family including the local aquarium, water park and Labyrinth Theme Park. The Labyrinth Theme Park entry is included in the all-inclusive package offered by the resort.
- History and Adult Options: Catch a ride to Knossos Palace, the Museum of Heraklion or the Island of Spinalonga or a local winery. Entry fees are not included in your stay. Only the ride.
- Excursions: The resort also offers organized excursions to The Lassithi Plateau, Chania in Western Crete and nearby Koutouloufari Traditional Village.
Food and Restaurants
Restaurants: Village Heights Resort has no shortage of food options! It is home to:
- Rodies: A traditional Cretan restaurant without an open-air kitchen. This is such an aesthetic restaurant and offers great, fresh meal options. Reservations are required a day before and with an all-inclusive package you can have a traditional Cretan breakfast here as well.
- Kafenio: A cute coffee shop located on the resort grounds. However, the hours are from 16:00-23:00, which is a bit inconvenient.
- Elia Restaurant: A restaurant located on the upstairs veranda offering great views of the sea below. Reservations are also required for this and is including in the all-inclusive package as well.
- Main restaurant: Located by the pool, this is where you will find the buffet breakfast as well as buffet dinner with different options every night.
Bars: There are two bars offered, one in the lobby and one by the pool. The pool bar also offers al a carte lunch options.
Is Village Heights Resort Kid-Friendly?
I touched on this a little while talking about the activities available on the resort grounds, but Village Heights is SUPER kid-friendly. It is honestly a great family resort; if you are looking for a lively resort with a party-vibe, this isn’t the one for you.
The resort has a lot of activities to entertain the kids (jumbo chess, game room, etc) and offers rides to the nearby Labyrinth Park, aquarium and the water park.
Packages and Prices
Village Heights offers a couple of different packages, which is super convenient! Many people want the amenities of nice resorts, but aren’t interested in the unlimited drinks, etc. You can purchase room only, half board or all-inclusive.
Room Only: You can stay at Village Heights resort and purchase the room only. Another option is to purchase a room with breakfast only.
- Rooms start at about ~$150 (little higher on the weekends) and can drop to about $100 or less during off-season.
Half Board: In the half-board option you can purchase a room with breakfast and dinner included. With the half-board dinner, the included food is located at the pool-side restaurant buffet.
- Half board is about $221 per night for 2 people to include breakfast and dinner.
All-Inclusive: If you don’t want to worry about paying for any food or drinks while on the premise, you can go for the all-inclusive option.
- All-inclusive options are about $289 per night for 2 people.
***Prices per night above are in September on a Friday night. During the summer months, there is a three night minimum and during August, prices are definitely more than described above. However, still affordable compared to some other 5 star options***

Overall Experience at Village heights Resort
In all honesty, I am not an avid luxury traveler. I typically choose a hotel based upon location and then do a LOT of exploring and moving around. However, our three nights here were at the end of a fast-paced itinerary in other parts of Greece and the slower-pace was nice!
If you are looking for a nice place to stay to mix in resort time with some exploration, it really is a great place to stay! The staff is super helpful and friendly in helping you set up transportation and activities you want to do!
