Visit the Blue Lagoon from Split: Everything You Need to Know!

Visiting the Blue Lagoon from Split was one of our favorite things we did while in Croatia! The water in Croatia is INCREDIBLE and the Split Blue Lagoon is no exception.

We took a tour from Split that went to the Blue Lagoon as well as a couple other nearby islands. Though Split is a beautiful city, we loved getting to see some of the smaller Croatian towns and get out on the Adriatic Sea!

Read on for the best tour to take, cost, what to expect on the tour, what to take with you, and more!

What is the Blue Lagoon & Where is it?

The Blue Lagoon (Hrvatska Plava Uvala), also known as Krknjasi Bay, is a bay with crystal clear, blue water (as you can probably imply). It is located between the bigger Croatian island of Otok Drvenik Veli and a smaller island, Otok Krknjaลก Veli.

The ride from Split to the Blue Lagoon, directly, is about 30 minutes via speedboat. However, as I said, most tours have a few different stops.

Best Tour to Visit the Blue Lagoon from Split

We took a half-day tour from Split that went to ล olta, Trogir and Blue Lagoon. However, since our tour they have since changed the stop at ล olta to Beach Bar Borkko, but I am confident the tour is probably still great!

As you begin researching, you’ll notice there are a LOT of Blue Lagoon options: some that leave from Split, some from Trogir, some visit a shipwreck, some only have two stops, some are are 5 hours, some are 10 hours, some are private tours, etc. It is a popular place to visit.

Therefore, it can be hard to choose which tour to take and which to steer away from.

My best advice is to decide which stops you would like to see, how long you want your tour to be and then CHECK THE REVIEWS!

We opted to take a tour from Split that would:

  • Include the Blue Lagoon plus stops in other Croatian towns,
  • But wouldn’t take all day to do (so we could do something else the other half of the day since we only had 4 days in Croatia)

The tour with Booker Travel Agency does just this and has a 4.7/5 rating (2390+ reviews) on Get Your Guide!

Our Experience with the Tour

As much as we loved Split, we REALLY wanted to get out on the water! We loved getting to swim in the Adriatic Sea, loved getting to see some of the geography of the Croatian islands from the boat and also loved to see a smaller Croatian town.

Is the Blue Lagoon busy? Yes. And, it probably has become more popular in recent years, but I still think getting out on the water is worth it! Pack your patience and your sunscreen and have a great time!

I would definitely recommend taking a boat tour and getting to see this part of Croatia!

Need a Hotel Recommendation? Hotel Kastel has a GREAT, central location in Split. They also offer parking and a shuttle to/from the airport!

What to Expect on the Blue Lagoon Tour from Split

The boat will leave from downtown Split, visit three different locations and then bring you back to Split. You will experience the incredible blue waters of the Adriatic Sea plus get to see a smaller Croatian town, which is a nice change from Split!

About The Three Stops: Beach Bar, Blue Lagoon and Trogir

Again, the tour will take you to a nice beach bar, the Blue Lagoon plus a Trogir.

Beach Bar Borkko

The tour will start at Beach Bar Borkko located on the island of ฤŒiovo. Here you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a cocktail or take a dip in the Branac bay. The aesthetic here is nice, with lounge chairs, covered seating, beach access and more!

  • You will spend about an hour of free time here before heading to the Blue Lagoon
  • Again, we went to ลšolta instead of this spot, but you can click here to see the official Instagram page of Beach Bar Borkko to see their amazing photos!
  • NOTE: Upon reading Google Reviews people either loved it or disliked it due to the music and less-than-quick service. However, know that you will be stopping by for an hour to enjoy the beach and probably grab a drink or two, so just be prepared before going.

Blue Lagoon

After enjoying the beach club, you will take a short boat ride to the Blue Lagoon. At the lagoon, you will pull up to a small jetty where you will unload. At the end of the jetty, the beach turns pebbly and rocky, so make sure you have the right footwear!

  • Here you will have about an hour to go swimming and snorkeling (snorkeling equipment provided) in the crystal clear turquoise waters!
  • There are a couple of restaurants (Shkoy and Konoba Krknjasi) located near the Blue Lagoon where you can grab some food, but lunch is not provided on this tour.
  • Or, like us, you can head to a grocery store before your tour and bring some picnic food!

Trogir

Following a dip at the Blue Lagoon, you will head to Trogir. This is a beautiful town and harbor with a lot of Venetian influence and gorgeous architecture throughout the city. As you pull up, you will notice the medieval wall that still stands along the harbor. A few things to do in Trogir:

  • Walk the streets of the old town and Palace Cipko
  • See the St Lawrence Cathedral
  • Visit the Venetian Fortress Kamerlengo
  • Walk the waterfront promenade (lots of restaurants and cafes here!)

Time Needed for a Day at the Blue Lagoon from Split

The tour is labeled as a 5 hour tour, so don’t prepare for any less than this. You also want to ensure that you are at the meeting point at least 30 minutes early.

Therefore, this tour is going to take a good half-day (6 hours to be comfortable), but will still leave you with an open morning or afternoon (depending on your time slot) to explore more of Split the rest of the day.

Alternative Highly-Rated Tours of the Blue Lagoon From Split

Though we enjoyed our tour, I know everyone has different preferences. Some of the other popular tours are ones that include trips to the Blue Cave and/or are longer tours that include more island hopping.

What to Wear and Pack On your Day on the Boat

Be prepared for your trip to the Blue Lagoon!

What to Wear:

  • Swimsuit– You won’t have anywhere to change on this tour, so be sure to have your swimsuit on before you head to the meeting point.
  • Sturdy Waterproof Sandals– Again, the beaches are rough and rocky, so protect your feet!
  • Hat– There is not a lot of shade at the Blue Lagoon, so I recommend bringing a hat to protect your face

What to Pack:

  • Sunscreen– 5 hours in the sun can be brutal; reef safe sunscreen is the best
  • Beach Towel– These are not provided on the tour
  • Change of Clothes– You will go from the Blue Lagoon to the town of Trogir where you will be able to find a restroom to change if you would prefer to
  • Waterproof Phone Case– If you plan to snorkel, bring a waterproof phone case or GoPro!
  • Cash- If you want to buy a drink or food on the tour, it is a good idea to have cash; not all places take card.
