About the Batur Natural Hot Springs
The Batur Natural Hot Springs are hot springs that are fed by the nearby active volcano of Mount Batur. Unlike many natural occurring hot springs, these hot springs are manmade pools, but the water that feeds them are naturally heated by the volcanic magma below ground. So, don’t go in expecting something that looks like a creek with hot water.
Ten different springs and pools are located here with varying levels of water temperatures and depths, one even being more kid-friendly.
Location
The Batur Natural Hot Springs are located in northern Bali in the village of Toya Bongkah on the western side of Lake Batur. The location provides a great lake view of the lake with a mountain backdrop while you soak in the hot springs!
From Ubud, the drive is about an hour and a half, so it is out of the way if you are staying in southern Bali. However, several companies offer transportation from the major Bali cities, and if you plan to do the Mount Batur sunrise hike, it is an easy addition to your itinerary!
Cost and What is Included
Entry into the hot springs for foreigners (non-locals) is 190,000 Rp or about $12 USD (Sometimes, like right now, the price is down to 171,000 Rp or about $10.60 directly on their website).
- This price gets your access to the hot springs, showers, a locker, a towel and a welcome drink!
- This price does not include transportation to/from the hotel, but that can be added
Changing, Showering and Locker Setup
Lockers: Again, you will get a locker included in your entry fee. The lockers are big enough to fit a standard backpack plus some, making it easy to store anything you have to bring with you, which can be a lot if you are coming from the Mount Batur hike.
Changing Area: The hot springs provide good accommodations for changing that are separate from the restrooms. There are no shelves, only have a hook, so don’t take all of your belongings into the changing room unless you want to put them on the floor.
Showers: Showers with soap and shampoo are provided for rinsing off before and/or after you get into the springs.
Food and Drink Availability
A ticket purchase will get you a free, non-alcoholic welcome drink, but it really isn’t much. However, are stands for beer, soda and ice-cream (which are cash-only). There is also a sit-down restaurant located at the hot springs that offers either western or traditional cuisine options.
Massage Experience Available at the Hot Springs
Massages are offered at the Batur natural hot springs, however, know that the massages are not for the modest. They are located in an open-air area with sheets hung between every two beds that are a bit free-flowing. As always, be sure to let your masseuse know what you are and aren’t comfortable with.
In all honesty, our group had Balinese massages in 4 different places, and they all preferred massages elsewhere. But, that is just opinion, and you are absolutely free to form your own!
Guided Experiences + Batur Natural Hot Springs
There are different ways of visiting the Batur Natural Hot Springs. You can go yourself and purchase the tickets at the entry, you can pre-purchase tickets and transportation directly on the website or you can find packages that include a guided Mount Batur sunrise hike.
Transportation + Entrance Fee
You can pre-purchase tickets on the Batur Natural hot springs website and include hotel transfer with it, but looking on the website, transportation is slightly expensive (about $43 USD from the Ubud area) in addition to the entry fee, which is about $11 USD online.
As I mentioned, the hot springs are pretty far north, so if you are going to make your way up to northern Bali if you are staying in either Ubud or even further south, your best bang for your buck and time would be to include the hot springs with other activities!
Guided Mount Batur Sunrise Hike + Natural Hot Springs Entrance
Again, many people choose to added the hot springs to their Mount Batur sunrise hike itinerary. This is a great option for doing just that! You will have a guide throughout the hike and transportation to/from the hotel and to the hot springs as well as entry into the hot springs.
The guide below has the option to add the hot springs, which you will do at check-out The price of the combo is $63 per person. For more information on the Mount Batur sunrise hike, click here!
Full Day Bali Tour + Natural Hot Springs
If you would like to see the hot springs and the surrounding area, but aren’t up for hiking up a strenuous volcano (can’t say I blame you), there are other guided tours you can do! The most popular tour that does not include the Mount Batur sunrise hike is the Full Day Kintamani Volcano View and Batur Natural Hot Springs Tour.
- This is a private tour option that takes you to Batuan Temple, Tirta Empul Temple, Kintamani Village, a buffet lunch with a volcano view, and the Batur Natural Hot Springs.
- The price for this package will vary depending on how many people are in your group.
What to Pack for the Batur Natural Hot Springs
First off, you will need a form of ID when entering the springs, so don’t forget that!
The lockers are really convenient for not having to sweat about what to leave behind while you are soaking in the springs. Other things to be sure to pack:
- Cash- Drink and food purchases are cash only
- Swimsuit
- Sunscreen
- Bug spray if you want to lay out- there were biting flies when we visited in April
- Waterproof phone case
- Waterproof sandals- If you have sensitive feet, some of the mats are hard to walk on surrounding the pools

So, Are the Batur Natural Hot Springs Worth Visiting?
Obviously we enjoyed the springs, or I wouldn’t be writing about it. However, do know that it is pretty far from Ubud, Sanur, Uluwatu, etc, so if you are going to visit I highly recommend adding it with either the Mount Batur sunrise hike or spending the day exploring northern parts of Bali!
