Affordable Hotels in Monaco: How to Visit on a budget!
Are there affordable hotels in Monaco? Though many people flock to Monaco for its luxury and high-end hotels and entertainment, you can certainly stay in Monaco without breaking the bank!
We stayed one night in Monaco in September of 2024 and spent $145 on our hotel, which ended up being less than our hotel in Menton!
Though, in all honesty, there are not a LOT of affordable hotel options, especially if you are booking last minute, but you can certainly find a few options.

Summary of the Affordable Hotels in Monaco
Here is the deal: “affordable hotel” means different things to different people. For someone who is used to traveling on a budget, $250 a night is not budget-friendly. However, someone who usually travels more luxuriously, or at least in 4 to 5 star hotels, $250 a night can be a great deal.
Therefore, I am going to give “affordable hotels” in Monaco that fall into different budgets. And, know that there are not really any “low budget” hotels, meaning 1 star hotels or hostels, IN Monaco.
- To get an accommodation that is low budget, you will have to stay JUST outside of Monaco and/or choose an apartment rental. AND you will likely need to skip out on the months of June through August.
After doing research, I’ve given two of the best hotel options for each budget, because too many options can make choosing worse!
Also, realistically, if you plan to visit Monaco in July or August your “affordable hotel” options are going to SHRINK drastically.
Monaco Neighborhoods and Where to Stay
If you’ve read my post on what to do in Monaco, you’ll have noticed that Monaco has four areas and several neighborhoods within those areas. Here is a synopsis of each area of Monaco and what you can expect to find as far as accommodations go in each section.
- Monaco City– This is the historic district of Monaco, so you won’t find newer, luxury hotels here. You will be lucky to find many accommodation choices period.
- Fontevielle- This area is on the west side of Monaco, on the other side of Monaco City. Here you can find a variety of hotels, but know this area is a bit further from central Monaco.
- Monte Carlo– As you can guess, this is the higher-end area of Monaco. You can find all the luxury you need nearby the Monte Carlo Casino, or you can go a little further east toward Larvotto Beach and find accommodations that are more budget-friendly. Know, though, that this area of Monaco is also a little out of the way and not a central location
- La Condamine– This is the area that includes Port Hercule and is the most centrally-located area in Monaco. This is where we stayed due to proximity to restaurants and being central to the other areas of Monaco.
**The prices listed in this post are as of February 2025, so prices are obviously going to vary. However, giving the two prices during summer and off-season should help you get enough of an idea of where the most affordable hotels in Monaco will be!**
Affordable Hotels in Monaco: Mid-Budget
I am starting here, because I feel like this is where most people fall when they are trying to find an affordable hotel option. By “mid-budget hotels,” I mean 2-3 star hotels for less than $250 a night (though, to me, $250 a night is creeping into the luxury price, summer prices in Monaco are just “luxurious”)
Hotel de France is located in the La Condamine area close to the Monaco Market, which is a great central location! You can easily walk from here to Port Hercule and loads of restaurants nearby.
- This has to be one of the most affordable hotels in Monaco year-round
- Price: Around $140 USD per night during off-season (even in September, which is a great time to visit) & $160 in July rather than spiking in the summer like many of the other hotels in Monaco (and Europe).
Hotel Ambassador is a 3 star hotel located in the La Condamine area, but further up the hill behind Monaco. This gives great views of Port Hercule below, but does make it bit of a tougher walk to the city center.
- Price: Around $175-200 in November and $245 in June
Both of these hotels have great locations and are clean options. However, Hôtel de France is more budget-friendly and, to me, is the best bang for your buck when it comes to affordable hotels in Monaco!
Hôtel de France
We chose Hôtel de France due to the price, location and reviews. It has been updated since most of the ratings on Tripadvisor and has good ratings on Booking.com
We paid $145 USD for one night in September!
Affordable Hotels in Monaco: Budget Luxury
To me, this isn’t traveling on a budget, but for some it is! Want something a little fancier without breaking the bank? If you are headed to Monaco and would prefer a higher-end hotel, you can find really nice 4 star hotels for a “reasonable” price (if you aren’t wanting to visit in July or August!)
By “budget luxury,” I mean 4 star hotels that fall in the $250-450 per night (to me, anything above this is just luxury.) And, there are several hotels in Monaco that are $650-700+ a night in NOVEMBER.
Le Meridian Beach Plaza is a 4 star hotel with an incredible pool and, the biggest perk probably, its own private beach! It also comes with a heated pool, kids pool, and water activities such as canoeing.
- Price: Around $277 per night in November and $424 per night in June
Fairmont Monte Carlo is a 4 star hotel known for its famous Formula One Fairmont hairpin turn and the luxurious cars that sit out front. It also comes with a rooftop pool, spa, a casino and more!
We walked through the hotel in September and we were curious how much something like it would cost. Surprisingly, when we looked the price up for it was only about $280 for that night! Sure, this isn’t a budget price for me, but for the type of hotel, we expected it to be higher.
- Price: Around $280 a night in November and $415 a night in June
FYI: Summers in Monaco can get expensive. If you are wanting a luxury budget experience in Monaco, it should be during off season or at least shoulder season. These hotels will likely reach $600 a night in July and August

Affordable Hotels in Monaco: Low Budget
If you are wanting to be even more “budget” than $150 a night, you are probably going to have to stay JUST on the other side of the France/Monaco border. There are loads of hotels that say they are “in Monaco” but really have a French address. This SMALL change of address really drops the price of the hotels.
As I mentioned before, you won’t really find 1 star hotels or hostels in Monaco. If you’re wanting to REALLY stay in Monaco on a budget, your cheapest accommodation options are going to be apartment rentals or to choose a hotel just on the other side of the border in a a town called Beausoleil, France.
Hotel Capitole is a 3 star hotel that is found in Beausoleil, France- just a stones-throw away from Monaco. Though nothing fancy, it is clean and is still within walking distance to everything in Monaco.
- Price: Around $120 in November and $154-$170 in the summer months
Residence Odalys Les Hauts de la Principaute is a highly-rated apartment located JUST on the French side of the France/Monaco border as well. If you are really looking for a budget option, this is one of the most budget-friendly accommodations you can find near Monaco.
- Price: Around $70 a night in September, $120 in June
I’ve researched through the more budget-friendly hotels and these two options seem to be the most affordable, especially in the summer.
- If you plan to visit during shoulder season or the winter, you will have more budget-friendly options, but these two are still going to be some of the cheaper options.
TIP: If you notice several affordable hotel prices on the northern portion of Monaco on your search screen, be sure to zoom in and make sure its on the Monaco side of the France/Monaco border if you are wanting to actually stay IN Monaco. France is very strategic about placing hotels RIGHT on the border line!
Book a Low Budget Hotel
A reasonably priced 3 star hotel JUST over the border in France.
-Price: Around $120 in November and $154 in June
This apartment is also located just over the French border.
-Price: Around $70 in September and $120 in June
Where We Stayed in Monaco and our Experience
As I mentioned, we stayed at Hôtel de France in the La Condamine area of Monaco. We don’t like to pay up for hotels that we don’t spend a lot of time in. We try to find accommodations with great locations that make walking the city easier.
Though we could’ve saved:
- $70 by choosing the apartment, we had luggage that we wanted to be able to store at a hotel and
- $20 by choosing the hotel in France, we didn’t find the small savings to be worth the less-central location
Hôtel de France
I would highly recommend staying at Hôtel de France if you are looking for an affordable hotel in a good location!
Final Thoughts on Visiting Monaco on a Budget
Our original plan was to just take a day trip to Monaco rather than stay to save some money. However, once we started looking for hotels, we were honestly surprised to find that we could stay in Monaco for such an affordable price! Our hotel in Monaco was actually cheaper than the hotel we booked in Menton, France!
You can absolutely visit Monaco on a budget. You can find affordable hotels, food and much of the things to do in Monaco are free sight seeing!
