Batur Natural Hot Springs: Everything You Need to Know about Visiting!
The Batur Natural Hot Springs in Bali are a collection of pools fed by the hot water coming from under the active volcano of Mount Batur. They are a common stop following the Mount Batur sunrise hike due to their close proximity to the hike and, whats better than soaking in a hot springs after ascending a volcano?!
The Batur hot springs are fed by naturally occurring springs that come out from under Mount Batur, but they are man-made pools. So rather than looking like a heated creek or pool of water (like the free hot springs in Costa Rica or the springs in Colorado), they look more similar to a normal swimming pool with heated water.
Here is everything you need to know about visiting the Batur Natural Hot Springs including how to get there, cost, amenities, massage exprience, guided tours to the hot springs, what to pack and bring with you and more!

Batur Natural Hot Springs: Location, How to Get There & More
The Batur Natural Hot Springs are hot springs that are fed by the nearby active volcano of Mount Batur. Again, unlike many natural occurring hot springs, these hot springs are manmade pools.
Though the water that feeds them is naturally heated by the volcanic magma below ground, the pools look closer to a collection of water park pools rather than a creek hot spring.
However, just because the pools look more manmade, doesn’t make them less impressive. There are ten different springs and pools with varying levels of water temperatures and depths, one even being more kid-friendly.
Plus, the surrounding mountains and views really make it a nice and relaxing experience!
Entrance into the Springs: For foreigners (non-locals) the price is around 200,000 Rp or about $12 USD directly on their website or about $8 through Get Your Guide.
This price gets your access to the hot springs, showers, a locker, a towel and a welcome drink! It does not include transportation to/from the hotel, but that can be added

Location of the batur Natural Hot Springs
The Batur Natural Hot Springs are located in northern Bali in the village of Toya Bongkah on the western side of Lake Batur.
Being on the edge of Lake Batur, the hot springs have a great view of the lake and a mountain backdrop while you soak in the hot springs!

How to Get to the Batur Natural Hot Springs
The location is a bit far from some of the popular home-base towns in the south of Bali such as Ubud, Canggu and Uluwatu. From Ubud, the drive is about an hour and a half. You can get there a few different ways.
Rent a Car or Scooter: One way to get the hot springs is to rent a car or scooter and drive yourself. Scooters are easier to navigate the island with, but you can also rent a car if you aren’t comfortable driving a scooter.
Hire a Driver: Through Klook, you can hire a driver for 6, 10 or 12 hours. Price varies on hour selection, language selection and more. But, start around $22 for 6 hours for a group of 1-3.
Purchase Transportation with Ticket: You can pre-purchase tickets on the Batur Natural hot springs website and include hotel transfer with it. But looking on the website, transportation is slightly expensive (about $43 USD from the Ubud area) in addition to the entry fee, which is about $11 USD online.
Take a Guided Tour: I recommend the sunrise hike at Mount Batur and I recommend having a guide when you do it. So a great option is to take a guided sunrise hike + hot springs entry!
Guided Experiences + Batur Natural Hot Springs
As I mentioned, the hot springs are pretty far north, so if you are going to make your way up to northern Bali if you are staying in either Ubud or even further south, your best bang for your buck and time would be to include the hot springs with other activities!
Guided Mount Batur Sunrise Hike + Natural Hot Springs Entrance
Again, many people (including us!) choose to add the hot springs to their Mount Batur sunrise hike itinerary. The guided tour REALLY helps navigate Mount Batur, especially since you begin the sunrise tour in the pitch-black.
The guides will also offer a simple breakfast and coffee at the top of the mountain while watching the sun rise!
In addition to having a guide for the hike, you will have transportation to/from the hotel and to the hot springs as well as entry into the hot springs.
Mount Batur Sunrise Hike + Natural Hot Spring Soak!
Sunrise Jeep Tour + Natural Hot Springs
If you would like to see the hot springs and the surrounding area, but aren’t up for hiking up a strenuous volcano you can take a guided jeep tour to watch the sunrise before heading to the hot springs.
This tour also includes hotel pickup and a sunrise view from Mount Batur as well as entry into the hot springs (it just doesn’t include the hiking bit 🙂)
The private Jeep tour below is a best-seller and highly-rated!

–Duration: 5-8 hours
–Cost: ~$68 per person
P. S You can find shared Jeep tours for about $22 per person, but those will not include hotel pick up or entrance to the hot springs.
Other Things to Know About Visiting Batur Natural Hot Springs
Now that you have decided how to get to the Batur Hot Springs, here are some things to help prepare you for your trip to the springs!
Amenities Available at the Springs
Lockers: Again, you will get a locker included in your entry fee. The lockers are big enough to fit a standard backpack plus some, making it easy to store anything you have to bring with you, which can be a lot if you are coming from the Mount Batur hike.
Changing Area: The hot springs provide good accommodations for changing that are separate from the restrooms. There are no shelves, only have a hook, so don’t take all of your belongings into the changing room unless you want to put them on the floor.
Showers: Showers with soap and shampoo are provided for rinsing off before and/or after you get into the springs.
Food and Drink Availability: A ticket purchase will get you a free, non-alcoholic welcome drink, but it really isn’t much. However, are stands for beer, soda and ice-cream (which are cash-only). There is also a sit-down restaurant located at the hot springs that offers either western or traditional cuisine options.
Massage Experience Available at the Hot Springs
Massages are offered at the Batur natural hot springs, however, know that the massages are not for the modest. They are located in an open-air area with sheets hung between every two beds that are a bit free-flowing. As always, be sure to let your masseuse know what you are and aren’t comfortable with.
In all honesty, our group had Balinese massages in 4 different places, and they all preferred massages elsewhere. But, that is just opinion, and you are absolutely free to form your own!
What to Pack for the Batur Natural Hot Springs
First off, you will need a form of ID when entering the springs, so don’t forget that!
The lockers are really convenient for not having to sweat about what to leave behind while you are soaking in the springs. Other things to be sure to pack:
Cash– Drink and food purchases are cash only
Swimsuit– If you are coming from the hike, you probably aren’t going to be wearing your suit. So don’t forget to pack one!
Sunscreen- This isn’t a bad idea for both the pools and the hike (or Jeep ride)
Bug spray– There were biting flies when we visited in April!
Waterproof phone case– I use this phone case from Amazon that has worked well (so far.)
Waterproof sandals– If you have sensitive feet, some of the mats are hard to walk on surrounding the pools. My go-to water shoe is the Teva Hurricanes.
A hat– There isn’t a lot of shade above the pools, so a hat isn’t a bad idea.
Change of clothes for your ride home!

So, Are the Batur Natural Hot Springs Worth Visiting?
Obviously we enjoyed the springs, or I wouldn’t be writing about it. However, do know that it is pretty far from Ubud, Sanur, Uluwatu, etc, so if you are going to visit I highly recommend adding it with either the Mount Batur sunrise hike or spending the day exploring northern parts of Bali!
